MØNTAGE CAMP is a six-day festival for interdisciplinary research focussing on electroacoustic and experimental music, media art and installation. Open fields of interaction, participatory formats and a varied programme of workshops and lectures are intended to create space for individual artistic research and networking. Collectivity, creative collaboration and networking. „Montage Camp“ is a platform that promotes the exchange and development of networks in the transdisciplinary art scene.
PROGRAMM
In contrast to a festival with a workshop programme, MØNTAGE CAMP is dedicated to the individual processes of the participants. The focus lies on artistic research, knowledge sharing and creative collaboration. An open atmosphere will invite participants to exchange ideas with like-minded enthusiasts and other creators. By providing the necessary resources such as space, technical infrastructure, supplies, etc., open fields of interaction are designed to support the participants in their joint research as well as individual artistic processes. These interactive situations enable a corresponding montage of diverse media. With modular systems, installation components, performative elements, toys and tools, creative support and technical know-how, new possibilities of expression can be created and a freely inspired interplay of individual actors can be established.
In addition, workshops are held that serve as a source of professional and differentiated input. Various contents provide in-depth insights into different approaches and techniques. You can register for one or more workshops or research your own or collective project ideas during the research week!
During the daily festival check-ins all participants may connect, exchange ideas, seek support, find overlaps, ask for collaborators or just find whatever to do what’s in their mood. In addition, there is an open board where projects are advertised, information is given and also own workshops and knowledge sharing is welcome to be offered!
The MØNTAGE CAMP functions as an open, self-organised system and network. A fluid field that enables non-linear processes and interaction and gives room to new creative synergies. We encourage everyone to participate in the full week experience and be part of this special experiment.

SESSIONS
DO YOU KNOW THE KLUB MØNTAGE IMPRO SESSIONS?
The sessions work on a slot system where each slot lasts between 10-20 minutes with 3 to 6 people playing at once. Find your impro partner/group or let us invite you to a group and slot.
TUNING SESSION:
We open up the impro slot sessions with an exercise called TUNING SESSION. It’s a guided experiment for experienced & beginner improvisers alike. We offer three simple techniques for improvisation and take our time to dive into a collective concentration and atunement.
VISUAL ARTISTS:
There will be at least one (maybe two) projector(s) that can be used for doing visuals on the walls behind the musicians and around the space. You may share your space and experiment together with other visual artists. Unfortunately, we have sparse infrastructure like video mixers, time base correctors, small tube screens and such. We’re glad if you bring some!
PERFORMANCE / INSTALLATION:
We are also happy to offer space for performance artists who would like to improvise with the sound and visuals in any way possible. It’s also possible to offer areas for (sound) art installations. If you want to bring something please get in touch early enough.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
Synchronisation via MIDI or CV clock is possible, the infrastructure will be provided. All sessions will be recorded and archived (w/ date, time and artists present as best as possible). We release some of the sessions on soundcloud.com/klub.montage and sometimes release the very best of them digitally or on tape via klubmontage.bandcamp.com
SHOWING
10.AUGUST 2024 / OPEN END
The public final event on Saturday evening at MØNTAGE CAMP allows each artist to present the results of their research and to create a consistant evening program together. The presentations of the resulting projects do not have to show finished works, but can provide insights into ongoing development processes or show works in progress! Everyone who was involved in the whole (or most of the) week can participate in the final evening programme, of course no one is obliged to do so. How exactly the programm will look and proceed will be decided by the festival participants together.
After the presentation, we will celebrate!!

by Isabella Forciniti
Was bedeutet Kollektivität in der Kunst?
Isabella Forciniti, a sound artist from Italy based in Vienna, is deeply entrenched in a diverse range of artistic pursuits, embracing performance, composition, research, and innovation. Her music and live performances traverse the spectrum that stretches from meticulously crafted arrangements to impromptu improvisation. Throughout this artistic journey, she adroitly wields a toolkit of fragmented yet rhythmically captivating beats, intricate manipulations of spatial perceptions, and intriguing psychoacoustic phenomena.
She has been engaged in research projects that intersect the artistic potentials of digital networking (such as The Choir and The Sound System) with the advancement of digital instruments influenced by environmental data (as exemplified by A Sound That Never Was).
Forciniti has showcased at prominent music festivals, including Wien Modern (AT), Skaņu Mežs (LV), Ars Electronica (AT), Unsound Festival (PL), Dark Mofo (AU), and CTM Festival (DE). In 2022 she earned selection for the SHAPE+ platform, a showcase for pioneering music and audiovisual art.

Dynamic Buffer Wave-Terrain Synthesis
TALK by Daniel Haas (STURMHERTA) | Dauer: ~30min
Describing the process used in „VRA“, an audiovisual performance that uses Image-to-Sound Transformation as its main element. This technique could also be described as „dynamic buffer wave-terrain synthesis“. I am describing my own approach to turn a 2D texture into sound, using Max/MSP/Jitter and the object [jit.peek] to navigate and scan through the texture.
Austrian artist Daniel Haas, born 1992, is based in Linz/Austria and studies „timebased and interactive mediaarts“ at university of arts Linz. With roots in the modular-synth-community he created the project „STURMHERTA“. Under this synonym he released several digital EPs and tapes, but mostly he focusses on live-performance. In STURMHERTAs repertoire we find hybrid-modular livesets, intense, stroboscopic audiovisual performances and immersive sound installations. A recurring element in his works is the strong connection of sound and light, often found as a direct translation of one to the other.
LASER WORKSHOP (USING SOUND)
by Jerobeam Fenderson & Hansi3D
This workshop deals with laser light, it’s history and characteristics. You will learn about the beauty and dangers of lasers, and how to use them safely. Among other things we will also discuss the curious, inextricable relationship between lasers and sound.
Workshop contents:
- Introduction to laser light
- Laser safety
- Laser projector hardware
- Driving lasers using sound
- Duration 2-3 hours
- Ample time to try out lasers for yourself
Bring your own laptop for hands on experience!
Jerobeam Fenderson & Hansi3D are known for their Oscilloscope Music project, where the visuals are drawn using sound. In order to get the closest possible correlation between image and sound, the exact same signal that is connected to the left and right speakers is also connected to a laser projector’s X and Y inputs, producing complex lissajous images.
Over the last decade Jerobeam Fenderson and Hansi3D have created ever more elaborate techniques to explore this largely uncharted field of audiovisual music, resulting in a full length album, as well as the unique 3D-audio software OsciStudio.
Hansi Raber has been active in the vicinity of programming, mathematics, music and art for the past 20 years. His works often have a chaotic lightness that portraits certain aspects of the fabric of reality. His pieces have been shown at the MAK Museum of Applied Arts Wien, ZKM Center for Media Arts Karlsruhe, Centre Pomidou Paris and many other places.
Jerobeam Fenderson is an audiovisual artist and electronic tinkerer based in Vienna, Austria. He likes to envelope himself behind multiple unassociated personas. He has performed at Laser Dome Seattle, Brut Wien, Ars Electronica Linz, Elevate Graz, Unsafe and Sounds Wien, and the Toulouse Hacker Space Festival. His works reached have large audiences online and have been featured in Wired Magazine, IEEE Spectrum and BBC Click.
Michael Fischer – musician-composer & instant composition conductor

IMPROVISATION – Electro/Acoustic Voicing & Real-Time Composition
Tanja Fuchs & David Pridal
This workshop focuses on experimental electronic improvisation, from drones to noise, fragmented sounds to polyrhythms and (a)tonal vocal explorations. We dearly invite everyone, from already advanced musicians to curious beginners with no prior experience.
In improvisation we are all human – social beings aiming to listen to, support and sometimes tease and challenge each other. Improv embraces errors and vulnerabilities, lives from giving space as well as daring to go for what feels right in the moment – which isn’t always the easiest thing to do. That’s why our main aim is to create a comfy atmosphere of hands-on exchange, unlearning musical perfectionisms and simply enjoying a playful process together.
In the first part Tanja Fuchs and David Pridal will combine and introduce – depending on the groups’ needs and interests – inputs and backgrounds of improvisation as well as personal approaches on improv techniques. During the second part we will dive deeper into aesthetics of sonic expression and try out further ways of real-time composition and dramaturgy utilizing non-classical systems such as graphical notations. Another emphasis can be put on bringing in text and finding the voice – after seeking (un)common grounds and urgencies, we will create text fragments as a conceptual base to go into physical vocalizing and voicing techniques combined with the instrumentalists. Both days we will play several freely guided sessions in which there will be options to switch between roles and stations, try different setups and ideas as collectively supported adventures in sound.
You are invited to bring your own materials and toys such as electronic, analog or DIY instruments, text fragments, lyrical material or simply your bodies, voices and curiosity – we will bring in some microphones for interested vocalists and a few electronic and electroacoustic instruments to try out.

Feedbacks und Komposition
Jakob Schauer u. Robert Zimmerman
(alles was man so findet)
